Mari Rose Movement
Mari Thorn is an embodied movement teacher.
She brings to her work decades of experience studying with renowned teachers from Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, West Africa, and the United States, and 20+ years teaching dance with both children and adults. Mari is a certified fitness instructor in Pilates and Inferno Pilates, as well as being a certified teacher of the Silvestre Technique - a uniquely embodied dancer's training method. Developed by her mentors, Rosangela Silvestre and Vera Passo - Silvestre is rooted in ballet, informed by an Afro-Brazilian animistic worldview, and inspired by the movements of nature.
Mari has performed throughout the SF Bay Area as a company member with Ballet Afsaneh and Alayo Dance Companies; and throughout Portland, OR as a company member with Rejoice Diaspora Dance Theater. She currently enjoys offering a variety of weekly classes in dance, mat pilates and inferno pilates at Columbia Flow in Troutdale, OR.
Embodied movement is the practice of staying present in our felt senses. It is cultivating a core of safety that navigates discomfort with relative ease. It is coming home to an inner power that is steady, confident and self-compassionate. Mari's classes and workshops are a meaningful experience in connection; within one's self, together in community, and as a part of the natural world. She works with movers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
